Visit with Opthalmologist

Our DD was long due for an ophthalmologist appt and for some reason her appt got rescheduled, rescheduled & rescheduled and it was like it’s going to be never. So, my DH decided that we will change our ophthalmologist and started our search. We did our research, read reviews and finally found a group practice hoping she can be accommodated at the earliest and picked our ophthalmologist too. He was old and we were sure that with his long pediatric experience and expertise, it was actually in our favor. We were all set for the appt.

I reached the ophthalmologist office expecting it to be a small narrow office in a back corner of the building(remembering her previous ophtalmologist) but it was located in the center of high end offices. So, I thought maybe they have would have all updated facilities too. At the check-in

receptionist took forever trying to figure out the health/vision insurance and got all the more confused. I was sure that it’s going to be billed wrongly and one month from now, we are going to be arguing with the insurance company. Oh what, I didn’t care as I thought it was my DH’s area of expertise and let him deal with it later.

Finally after another half hour wait, we were called for our appt. When I looked at the ophthalmologist, he looked older than his picture on the web. Maybe it was taken when he was more young I thought. He had a thin wire extending over his ears. kudos to the latest technology that the quality of life can be improved and he could continue to do what he is passionate about without hearing challenges. He went on with his examination as I was looking at the computer thinking how old this application could be. Definitely it was not latest technology. Thoughts were racing in my mind - was it thoroughly tested, what if there was a glitch, would it calculate the power correctly and so on.

When we were about to be done, suddenly his unclear speech caught my attention and as I turned to look at him, he was fixing something inside his mouth. Oh the dentures I thought. Oh, boy did I make a wrong choice with the ophthalmologist? He happily stretched his hand to shake ours as he was saying bye. My DD puzzled and not knowing what to do looked at me and we had to shake his hands (just like Sally and the boy in the Cat in the Hat) and ran out to reach for the Purell. Luckily there was one at the receptionist desk.

It was time for our ophthalmologist to visit his dentist.
