93 year old Jaya Deshprabhu, owner of the grandest mansion of Goa,Visconde de Pernem,is troubled by her two sons, one of whom, the younger one Jeetendra is a MLA.

Seems the sons are very abusive to her, using foul language, and forcing her to sign the property papers, for which she has had to run away from Goa, so now she has written a book on this.

A very sad tale indeed. The sons want her property, which will be theirs after she is no more, what is the hurry. Ah, she is still alive at 93, is it, she has lived longer than she should have. Well that way even Khuswant Singh lived till 99, what can u do about that . that is not in anyone’s hands.

They say, if u want to inherit, then u have to wear out many shoes, for u have to wait for the owner of the property to die, in many cases the parents, then the property comes to u. Till then, twiddle your thumbs, and wait and watch.

There was this case of the real estate baron of Mumbai Raheja, who left behind 12000 crores. First he willed all to his pnly son,and nothing to his two daughters, then he had a fight and changed his will , all to his daughters, and nothing to his son, now the son and the daughters are fighting in court for that 12000 crore pie. I had blogged about it a year or so back, and now this Goa case has come up.

Is it a good deal to have a son, to wish for a son, to go thru all that tests and treatments, intro vio etc, for a son ? Is a son a good investment for a person? An investment ? yes u heard me right, investment.

We keep investing during our younger days, for a cosy old age, when we have good finances, to have a decent old age. When u have children, u spend on their education, marriages, higher education etc. Till this point u spend the same on the son and the daughter.

For the son, u invest more. If ever he is in trouble, u are there financially for him, he stands to inherit the property, not the daughter. With the way property is priced these days, inc rores, wow.

Even if the son turns out to be a good person, he may not be with parents in their old age, for his job may be in another city, or overseas. So that support is not there that a parent wished for. And I have seen many parents who have a 5 crore flat, but don’t have 50,000 income to get by, what with doctors , medicines, and maids taking up much of the money. Maybe the son has the eye on the property, which he knows will come to him. So it is his duty to send some money every month to his parents, to keep them comfortable, but do they ?

So it is the duty of every parent, to not give away everything when alive, to keep something for their old age, to not depend on their sons and lament, and in a bad senerio, take a Reverse mortgage from the Bank, and live a comfortable life, while they are alive, and leave the mortage for the son to pay, when they die, if he wants the house.

I don’t have sons, just two daughters, so some may think of this as a case of sour grapes. Well how can I stop others from thinking like this, so be it. Its just that , let us learn to be more careful and depend on our own selves , rather than sons, for times have changed, and it will be foolhardy to expect much from the sons, and if they are good to u, well , that is yr good luck. But that is a minority now, most may be good, but circumstances force them to live away with their wives and children, for work, and parents must realize this, and make a cosy nest for themselves in their working days, and wish the sons well, as they wish the daughters. These days sons hardly stay with parents in the same house, even if they stay in the same city, they want their own space, so does the daughter in law.

Sad Times indeed as this Goa lady has found out.
