Anyone has any experience with their kids(middle-high schoolers) taking John-hopkins CTY online courses after meeting the eligibility requirements ? Is it worth the fee?
For 6th - 9th graders, the courses are usually good and worth the fee. The courses are often tried and tested - the instructors have been conducting them for years.
The same learning can also happen in a less expensive setting - but the discipline comes when paying for it, and when there are weekly deadlines.
Part of the cost, though, is for the name. We pay for the confidence it brings.
Taking one course will help child explore a new topic maybe, but to see tangible improvement or learning, better to take 2-4 related courses over 1-2 years. Child can also list these under academic achievements on resume when applying for summer camps and opportunities in high school.
There are often similar courses offered by other institutes such as FLVS and Stanford's GiftedandTalented.
