Vaginismus - Problem Having Sex

Hi

I suffered from Vaginismus for 7 years of my married life. However, what now gives me the excitement to share my experience is that I have finally been cured!

Vaginismus is a condition where you are unable to have penetrative sex with your partner. It appears as a wall blocking your partner's penis from penetrating the vagina and is a major cause of unconsummated marriages.

I was fortunate to have a loving husband who did not care about 'not making out' as we have been college sweethearts and been together for a looong time. However, it still did not make me feel comfortable as I wanted to give him the best of everything. However, with all the travel that we did and other engagements, sex just took a backseat for 7 years.

It was when we finally decided we wanted to have child, that is when we started looking for options and met a fertility doctor. Fortunately for us, this doctor was experienced in treating vaginismus. He was adamant that instead of going for fertility treatments to conceive we should first try to resolve vaginismus.

He suggested dilation under general anaesthesia where while you are unconscious, the doctor inserts dilators of increasing sizes inside your vagina and leaves one inside you. Once you regain consciousness, the doctor helps you realize how it is totally painless to insert anything inside your vagina - with subtle counselling and constant practice - you will be able to insert dilators easily and finally move to having sex. Even today (I have been cured for 6 months now), I use dilators before attempting sex as that relaxes me and we cannot use lubricants as we are trying to conceive.

Apart from dilation, another treatment is botox injections for cases where dilation may not help or simply if your doctor feels the need. Here, during GA they inject botox in yoru vaginal walls which prevents your muscles from contracting for 3-4 months during which you get used to insertion. Another option is a small operation where they cut a small piece of the sphincter muscle that causes the involuntary contract at any attempt of penetration.

I invite all those who suffer from this problem to discuss their experience here and lets help each other out. Pls feel free to private message me in case you want reference of this doctor.

Thanks!
