The announcement of the Finest post for May has come out with a heavy dose of calamity very difficult to digest. Two tragic events at a time! somehow your wife's cousin has to come out of this set up and restore normalcy soon, easy to say, difficult to adhere to.Parting with one's own dear ones is nature's cruel intervention.
As 'taking leave ' after condolence denotes recurrence of any such event, and even modern thinkers believe in such practices, nobody talks to the survivor or visits them or talks to them about future plan though the survivor would like to consult some one.It is good thing Cheeniya Sir, that you rose above the existing practice and talked to her about future plans. This way the lady could divert her mind.
I am reminded of the death of my dear friend in Calcutta when she was just 47.
She had survivors-her husband, a married daughter,son-in-law and a 11 month old child and a son in the college.
She died of some brain fever. After 13 days son-in-law went back to Delhi. Daughter was staying with her child as to console her brother. For a change they wanted to go and stay in some other place for a few days. They occupied the company's guest house as to divert their mind. As ill luck would have it, the old building ( guest house ) gave way and the entire 3 storeyed structure crumbled down with no survivors.
Except the son-in-law who was in Delhi the entire family was wiped off. There was nobody to plan and nothing to plan.
The settlement due from both the offices of the husband and wife could not be paid, as the son-in-law was not considered the legal heir, Having lost his wife and child he was in no mood to prefer claim. No siblings on either side .The grieving mothers on either side .aged 90 plus were already counting the days.
Around Rs 50 lakhs, was a huge money in 1989.
These accidents land everybody in a great mess. That lady was the owner of 50% of an independent house in Chennai. The civil case went on for years. Both the old mothers left for heaven. After 25 years the other owner of 50% could get the house in a court auction at a throw away price. Now the house has been demolished and converted int 4 residential flats.
There is a pronounced problem when the bread winner is no more and the survivors suffer. In cases where there is 'koondodu kailasam'( mass death) there are other legal complications, untold miseries even to third parties unconnected with the family.
We can only pray for good health and natural death after completing one's responsibilities.
It is beyond our control.
May God almighty give the lady the strength of mind to bear the loss of two beloved members and return to normalcy as early as possible.
