Why Can't MIL let us live peacefully?

Hi,

I am again here to share my feelings.

My question is what satisfaction does these MILs get when they irritate us?
Suggest me how can I handle such situation w/o getting irritated?

Incident1 :

MIL: You should wash your bathroom just with water before bathing (Bath should be taken in fresh bathroom)
Me : I do that.
MIL : Did u spill water below commode?
Me : (Keeping my patience) Yes I did.
MIL : There was a dirt spot there so just asked.

pheww!!!

Incident 2 :
Son's tongue was red and MIL started blaming me.

MIL : He ate hot khichdi(indian food) that is why his tongue is red.
Me : Patiently No I did not give him that hot.
MIL : No u gave it directly from gas.
Me: (Controlling myself) No, I cooled it down, checked it by finger then tasted it then gave him.
MIL : Silent

I am smart enough to play deaf and dumb now but the way she speaks and the words she speaks keeps on roaming in my mind for several days.

Despite of taking care of her every little thing she keeps on riding me. Also, DH is much influenced with her.

I wish If I had a magic wand.
