Baby Mottai ritual

Hi Ladies,

My daughter is 6.5 months old now and we plan to do the head shave - mottai ritual soon. I was wondering whether this is supposed to be done before or after the ayush homam(1st birthday). Which way is normally followed/atleast the majority?

:) If it is after, then at least we can get good pictures of her on her bday with a bit of long hair.
