Governing from the bench

I am appalled by the functioning of supreme court of India. Here are their statements on the black money case.

  • We won’t change even a word of our order.

  • New regime at the Centre can’t ask for modification of order when it was passed in an open court and accepted by the government.

  • You do not do anything. Just pass information of account holders to us and we will pass order for further probe.

  • Why are you providing protective umbrella to foreign bank account holders?

  • We can’t leave the issue of bringing back black money to government. It will never happen during our time.

  • You do not have to take interest in people (having foreign bank accounts), the SIT (Special Investigation Team) will take care of it.

In addition, SC recently canceled the telecom licenses and the coal licenses as they didn't like the way it was allocated by the elected government.

If they want to govern, they should contest the election and not govern from the bench.

On one side they are so impatient about black money and on the other side gave bail to Jayalalitha on health grounds!!! So a person is fit enough to execute the duties of chief ministership but is not fit enough to stay in Jail where she doesn't have to cook, clean or work On top of it asking her to tell her supporters to remain peacefulThis coming from a bench that is supposed to hold everyone to the law of the land. Should if someone breaks the crime (protesting, burning off public property, etc) they should be held accountable? And the supreme court should be saying as such? Just image, bench of supreme court of US telling Obama to tell his supporters to remain peaceful. It would have been a huge embarrassment to the supreme court here. It took 18 years for the verdict and a day to get the bail from Supreme Court.

If Supreme court wants to govern, then they should ensure that the culprits of Nirbhaya are hanged as soon as possible (It has been two years and the culprits are living peacefully in jail), it should ensure that cases are handled quickly and all gimmicks of delay are stopped, it should direct the government to make strongest laws against rape, molestation and harassment against women.

Really upset with the Supreme Court. But remember the smart kids are groomed to be doctors or engineers or chartered accountants. Part of the rest goes in business. The rest becomes lawyers and the lawyers who are not successful becomes judges (fixed salary + pension). Add to that reservation and this is the bench we get.
