Aug 22nd 1639, British Administrator Francis Day along Andrew Cogan struck a deal with the Vijayanagar empire to acquire a stretch of no man's land. This stretch was named as "MADRAS" now grown to its heights and rechristened as "CHENNAI"

First was the Fort St George built and slowly the city got developed into this Modern City which houses the Temples like Parthasarathy Temple, Marundeeswarar Temple, Kapaleeswarar Temple.

The Railway Stations, Harbour, Fort, University of Madras, Court many of them date back to the erstwhile history.
