Need list of ingredients for face pack by Rajam Murali

The Signs

The signs are unmistakeable. Memories of the past flash before my eyes.

"Why don't you go and sleep? I can see from your eyes that you are very sleepy", mom admonishes me. I crawl into bed reluctantly. I want to know what gossip goes on after packing me off to bed. My sister is not sent off to sleep as early as me. She can partake in the late evening chatter session.

I am sure all of you have seen kids rubbing their eyes, acting hysterical and refusing to go to sleep.

A couple of decades later:

"Aa aa aa aa ....." I try to put my baby nephew to sleep. He starts crying. Damn. Why does he not go to sleep? The decibels of the "Aa aa aa aa ....." rise and soon go above the level of the baby's crying. He gives me a shocked look and decides it is safer to go to sleep ..... as soon as he can!

"Nanhi kali sone chali ....." I sing to my baby niece. She is satisfied as long as her thumb is in her mouth and there is a sheet in her hand (cheet cheet, she says as soon as she is able to say a few words) to cover that hand in the mouth. She screams herself hoarse and the moment the 'cheet cheet' is in her hand, she beams away and slowly falls asleep. There is a catch, however. The sheet has to be plain cotton and it has to be absolutely spandy white. No other sheet will do. No handkerchief, no cheques, no stripes, no trace of colour. This is my 3 month old baby niece!

"Angai mangai" I sing to the French baby I am baby sitting. The fellow has a mischievous look in his eyes. I play up to him and introduce little sharp notes in the lines. He listens intently. Day after day he listens. Then one day I notice the little guy listening very expectantly for the sharp note and the moment it comes in, he sucks in a breath and beats his hands and legs in excitement and laughs! This has become a game for him. So much for inducing sleep! I don't deny, I too derive a lot of enjoyment watching his excitement!

The years roll along. The story just plays out again and again in front of my eyes like a scratched DVD. Mothers desperately trying to put their recalcitrant or cranky babies to sleep is something that is the norm. I have a question. "Mom, why do babies CRY if they are sleepy? Why don't they just shut their eyes and go to sleep?" I ask. My mom looks exasperated at me. The expression on her face says "You must ask such questions, the answers to which mankind has not yet discovered as yet".

The children are growing up. My parents are ageing. My mom loves her serials on telly. Dad feels obliged to sit up giving her company - self-inflicted - and nods off to sleep sitting. This becomes a daily habit. "Why don't you go to sleep? Why must you sit here and sleep sitting?" mom asks dad, but dad will insist on 'keeping her company'. (Just as an aside, why don't make husbands like that any more?) Well, dad is now on his way to his second childhood.

As for me, I am eternally ready to crawl under the blanket, cower away from life and let the world go by.

I am nicknamed 'Kumbhakarni' in honour of the character in the Ramayana. I hate being awake. "Look at people your age. They are so smart and active. Why are you so lazy?" Heck, do I always have to do what others do? Why can't I just be?

I remember a TV programme where an elderly lady claims that she has not slept a wink for some 10 years or so....I forget the exact figure. I wonder if that is humanly possible. How can anyone survive without sleep? I can't even stay awake in the afternoons, despite threats that an afternoon siesta ensures weight gain. (BTW, the latest theories state that good sleep is essential for healing of tissues as well as for weight control. Which version should I believe, I ask you! )

Another couple of decades pass by.

"What are you doing up at this hour? Shouldn't you be asleep?" admonish my friends from the other end of the world, seeing me online at all odd hours. Initially it is a post operative pain in a shoulder, then it is the back. Slowly I get hooked to the net to keep me going through those sleepless hours. The months pass by. The pain eases out in a relative manner of speaking, but now I can't go to sleep. Oh no! There is so much to be done online - my life depends on it. I avoid sleeping in the afternoon. If I sleep in the afternoon, I can't sleep in the night. When sleep comes crawling in to take hold of me, I can't afford to sleep. Won't I miss chatting with friends whose life runs 10 hours behind my time? How can I not play my online game and allow someone to overtake me?

The question comes back to mind "Why do kids refuse to sleep?" I am reminded of that, like the past two afternoons, when I fall asleep sitting, but then shake myself awake and ask my Woman Friday to get me an SOS coffee to wake me up. Why? I have nothing to do, nowhere to go, no jobs waiting for me. The answer is simple, Oh, there is so much to be done and I can't let life pass me by.

The signs are unmistakeable. I am growing younger and younger again! That is called 'life in reverse gear'.

The Signs

And then, there it was ......a rainbow!

Many days I have this moment where in go, "Good God! Shoot". No I am not in pain but when my mind does connecting of the dots, that is how I feel. And then there are days like today, I begin my day with the same phrase. When that happens, I know I need to pay attention and listen to it. The same message won't come over and over to you if you are not deeply thinking about it, does it? You know, the universe wanting to give what we are seeking, having no discernment, going with the flow and with a sense of humor, smiling telling us "You asked for it! Thathasthu!" and all that stuff? Anyways coming back to my 'Oh shoot' moment, it seems there is always a connection. How much ever I fret and think about my outward world, focusing on things that need to be taken care of for the day, it is the inner world that seems to have a better hold on me. It is very rarely that I go with that reaction when I am done with cooking or cleaning or reading. But when I am contemplating and through all of my actions that I have this aha moment that I do react loudly! Waking up to that moment is bliss I tell you!

I am supposed to be writing in my journal right at this moment, but here I am, writing here. No, this cannot be taken as my journal entry for the day. And for those of you curious about journaling, well it is an experiment I am working on and just two weeks into, it seems to be working! I love doing these kinds of things to myself. Every now and then I read a book, follow what they ask me to do diligently, see it work wonders and live in a state of awe. When a book like this comes my way, I accept with gratitude that perhaps that is what I need and pay attention to follow through. Just that realization every now and then that I am not alone, the realization that there is a bigger power solely listening to me with full attention, waiting for me to listen to her so that I can hear her whisper is magical I tell you. The author of this book believes that there is an inner artist in all of us, yes even the ones that can't hold a pencil straight to draw a line and through a series of assignments, helps us get in touch with that artist. Now what master piece we will produce in known only to us. And I do tend to agree with her for when I know there is creator, why not believe that there is an element of him or her in us too and tap into that potential? So here I am like a wood pecker, pecking away every single day to eventually see that home I can build for myself - that calm place where I can delve into whenever I need and relax.

Take for example another book that I was reading and another experiment that I was following. I was asked to make a wish - a wish that is quite dear to me and ask for a sign as well to appear in the next 15 mins or so to know if that wish will come true or not! Guess what, I make somewhat an outlandish wish. No, not really, I make an outlandish sign! And guess what, the pink car that I wished for as a sign was standing at the gas station, right at the signal I was waiting at and I spot it just as I press my gas pedal. You should have seen my reaction and the sense of awe that I had as I tried to take a peek at that car through my rear view mirrors! Now, I know that wishes do come true! But then, Richard Bach pops into my head reminding me "You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however." Now all I need to do is figure the 'work for it.' out is what I think.

That is not the point anyways, the point is about the Universe and it's sense of humor, it's sense of wanting to give what you wish for. My wish must have mattered to the Universe and so as if to remind me again and again, the Universe sends across a couple of pink vehicles my way every now and then - including a pink truck and a pink concrete mixer as well. I spot them here and there while driving you know and I am reminded of my little experiment and the wish. But I continue to live in my la la land, wishing, knowing well that things can happen, wondering if I am ready to receive. One day as I pull back my drive way, I am forced to stop. For, right behind me was a little pink jeep - the one that runs like a real one but only for kids, passing my way! As I wait for it to pass with the little kid who owns it waving at me, I realize that it belongs to my opposite house neighbor! Honestly, can you beat that sense of humor tell me? With a smile I realize for that little pink jeep is always out there reminding me of many things but more importantly of the joy I feel and the abundance in the Universe.

So coming back to that moment this morning, not knowing what or why, feeling a sense of deja vu and with a lightness in my step, I feel restless, a happy kind of restlessness - you know there is something out there but you know not what and involuntarily out of nowhere, I open the front door and then there it was .....a beautiful rainbow - no rain, nothing. So unexpected, so beautiful waiting patiently for me to get a look at it and soak up the beauty! I want to quantify what I feel, but the truth is I cannot. I am reminded of the rainbow my DD showed me last week after a rain, insisting it was visible only from her room and giving me a look of "Aha! I told you so!" when I brought her down and the rainbow had disappeared. I show my rainbow to her, much to her delight and joyful screams. We are so animated that a couple of others on their morning walks, stop look at the rainbow, take a picture and wave to us! Have we all not felt that when we see a shooting star or walking under a moon lit sky with that gentle summer breeze at our faces, kids walking fast with you to keep pace and the whole yard lit up with that gentle light! Oh how I love that and is there any wonder more than this?

And then, there it was ......a rainbow!

My TTC Success Story!!

Our sweet lil Princess is here :)

Dear Friends,

I am happy to announce the arrival of my princess :) My TTC journey and treatment is full of ups and downs. Few of you may know about my TTC struggle. I started TTC in 2007, issue found with left tube block, right tube was patent. DH parameters were good. Moved to treatments in 2009 and what happened until Dec 2010 can be found in the below thread
Memorable Moments of 2010 Contest - January 2011

2011 continued my TTC treatments and my second fresh cycle failed in July 2011. Reason quoted for failure is embryo quality and I was suggested to go for donor egg. Dropped all treatments and started a homeopathy treatment. Homeo doctor (got reference through IL) I consulted is at Chennai and I live in Hyderabad. Dec 2011 we went for a long road trip and I travelled nothing less than 1000 KM and a miracle happened, yes I conceived in a natural cycle. Happiness did not last for long, I had to terminate the pregnancy as there was no heartbeat. TTC was easier to manage, but this miscarriage collapsed me totally. I lost interest in everything and what kept me going was my job. I left my homeo treatments as getting instructions via phone was very painful.

With great reluctance I started my 3rd cycle with my own eggs in Nov 2012, again embryo quality was okish. We were not ready for another failure and my doctor suggested to freeze the embryos and suggested to go for one cycle with donor eggs. Idea was to do a mixed transfer. For some reason me and my husband did not like the idea.

We both got a chance to move to Pune for job reasons at the end of 3rd cycle and it turned out to be a major turning point. I welcomed the move whole heartedly as I thought a change of place may bring luck for us. Took a break for 6 months and started my treatment with Dr.Sachin Jadhav (Reference found from IL). He analyzed our case carefully and said that he will do a frozen embryo transfer as that was not tried with me. He rejected the idea of donor eggs as my AMH was very good and all other parameters were excellent. He put me on DHEA tablets, but the month I started the tablets I got a very good job offer and we decided to move back to Hyderabad. Informed our move to Dr.Sachin and he advised to finish the cycle and later we can come to Pune for ET. Followed his advice, I produced 14 embryos and 12 turned out to be excellent quality. They were frozen in two batches. I was following his advice through email and took medicines. We went to Pune in Apr 2014 for embryo transfer, this time I left everything to Doctor. Did not google anything, left to the doctors’ choice on the number of embryos to be transferred. WOW, my beta HCG came out positive, but we repeated the test 3 times to ensure the values or doubling. I was very scared until we heard the heartbeat and crossed my first trimester. Even after crossing first trimester I fully did not enjoy the pregnancy as I was very scared everything should go smooth. By gods grace everything went fine, I delivered my daughter at 40 weeks. I ate healthy, worked full time during my pregnancy.

My TTC treatment was for 5 long years with 3 failed IVF’s and one miscarriage. All these seem to be a dream when I see my lil princess smiling at me now. She is now 4 months old, I am writing this story to tell all TTC ladies miracles do happen J
